# Vault overview

> Learn how TextMine Vault stores, classifies, extracts, searches, validates, reports on, and publishes document intelligence.

Vault is the document intelligence surface in TextMine. Use it to collect documents, organize them in folders, classify document types, extract default and custom tags, ask questions, run reports, and feed downstream workflows, playbooks, agents, and records.

For the full Vault and validation-editor reference, see [Vault and editor capabilities](/vault/capabilities).

## Core concepts

* A Vault contains documents and folders for a team or business unit.
* Folders can be public to the team or private to selected users, depending on permissions.
* Document types determine the default extraction and review fields for each document.
* Custom tags and questions capture organization-specific data points.
* Ask Vault can answer from selected documents, all accessible Vault documents, extracted tags, and uploaded reference material.
* Reports, agents, playbooks, and workflows can all run against Vault documents.
* Validated Vault documents can be published into Legislate, where they become part of the team-document archive.

## Related features

Use Workflows to automate document events. Use Playbooks to apply reusable review logic. Use Records to turn evidence into structured data. Use Legislate for the published team-document view. Use Workbench when the task needs cross-product orchestration.
