# Records and integrations in workflows

> Connect workflows to records, APIs, SEC data, and external systems.

Workflows can update TextMine data and connect to external systems.

## Records

Use Lookup Record to read existing business records during a workflow. Use Create/Update Record to create or update records based on document evidence, extracted values, intake form values, or earlier workflow outputs.

## APIs and webhooks

Use API Request for generic REST calls. Use Webhook for outbound callbacks. Store secrets in the workflow configuration rather than hard-coding credentials in request bodies or headers.

## SEC and EDGAR

Workflow steps can search EDGAR filings or fetch SEC filings for supported filing types. Use these steps when a document process depends on public company filings or recurring filing imports.

## Integrations

Use integration import or submit steps when the workflow should move data or files between TextMine and a connected external system.
